I was supposed to be a pianist. I started at the M. K. Čiurlionis National School of Art in Vilnius, where children get an instrument at roughly the age other children get a football. Then Vilniaus licėjus, pure mathematics at Vilnius University, a master's in philosophy and cognitive science there (magna cum laude), and another philosophy master's in Edinburgh (with distinction). Along the way I flirted with studying acting, sat in on lectures in directing, and spent a stretch as a freelance director with a contemporary dance collective. For a while I taught mathematics and philosophy at the Waldorf school in Vilnius.
On paper it reads like a man who cannot make up his mind. I prefer to think of it as the opening of a go game: you place stones all over the board, and if you turn out to be a decent player, they start working together.
By trade I am a data architect. I founded Vėjai, a data engineering and analytics consultancy, co-founded Tvaras, a self-hosted AI data analyst, and wrote dtex, an open-source Python EL tool.
The philosophy stuck: philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, and logic — above all self-reference, paradoxes, and generic sentences. Frege I just keep rereading.
Music never left either. I play the Hayden duet concertina, surface at folk music festivals, and keep projects: Buterbrodų karta on YouTube, and NŠEK, which produced exactly one video — precisely as many as it needed. The long game is reconstruction: recovering Lithuanian traditional instrumental playing as it sounded before Tsar Alexei banned the skomorokhs and sent the instruments to the bonfires — a purge that reached Lithuania too.
At home there is Burtas, a White Swiss Shepherd: the one member of the household with no unfinished degrees and no doubts whatsoever.
